About this tour

Chandrakhani Pass is a popular trek and also the most recommended treks for beginners in Himalayas. The place is famous for its religious importance too as it was one of the seat of meditation for Saptarishi Jamdagini. The trek offers panoramic view of all the famous peaks of Manali valley at once. This trek is one of the best treks to find snow in the route from Chaklani camp.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Delhi – Patlikuhal overnight Bus

All the participants will be taking an overnight bus from Delhi. This journey is about (12-14 hours) to Patlikuhal. Between the journey the bus will stop at one or more places for dinner and rest-stop.

Day 2 - Rumsu base camp

The next morning bus will drop you off at Patlikuhal (20km from Manali); from here a pick-up vehicle is arranged to take you to the base camp. Up on reaching the camp, you will freshen up and proceed for registration. Later, you will be taken for acclimatization walk. After the walk, you will be given a trekking bag, Microspikes (helps you walk on Ice), Gaiters (that prevents snow to enter your shoes) and trekking sticks. Overnight in the base camp

Day 3 - Trek to Ghankulhadi

After morning breakfast; gear up for your first day of trek to Ghankulhadi. This stunning trek will lead you through thick forest full of pine, fir, oak and chestnut trees. Ascend through the jungle to reach Ghankulhadi takes about 4-5 hours. Enjoy the trek through nature. Have packed lunch on the way. Up on arrival at Ghankulhadi; you will come across a vastly spread green meadows in the midst of dense forest. The camp will be set up here; overnight in the tents at Ghankulhadi

Day 4 - Trek to Chaklani

After breakfast; trek for Chaklani (3400m) commences. This stunning trek involves an easy ascend for about 3-4 hours. Up on reaching Chaklani you will come across amazing view of Manali Valley. We will set up the camp in Chaklani with a fantastic view of several peaks. Overnight in tents at Chaklani

Day 5 - Trek to Chandrakhani Pass

After breakfast all the participants will proceed for todays’ trek to Chandrakhani pass. The highest point of this pass is situated at an elevation of 3600 m. This stunning trek starts early at about 6 am; check out some stunning views on the way. Adjacent to Chandrakhani Pass, you will see Dhana Kunnu pass. Apart from being a wonderful trekking spots, the entire place is associated with Jamdagini Rishi – one of the seven rishis who meditated in these mountains. Up on reaching the top, take a break, have packed lunch and enjoy the view. Later start descending to Chaklani camp. Overnight in tents at Chaklani campsite

Day 6 - Descend to Rumsu base camp

After breakfast start descending to Rumsu base camp. The route is same as the one we take for ascending. It takes about 4 hours to descend. Overnight in Rumsu base camp

Day 7 - Departure

Post breakfast, participants can go for sightseeing and indulge in paragliding, rafting at own expanse. However, at 4 pm you will have to report at Mandi Bus stand to board the departure bus to Delhi. Lunch and Dinner is not included today.

Day 8 - Delhi drop off

The bus will drop you off at Majnu ka Tila bus stand around 6 am – 9 am. You can say your good bye and leave for your respected destinations from here. Breakfast is not included.

Mandatory Documents for the trek

Medical Certificate (signed by a registered MBBS doctor)

NOC form (by trekker)

Original and photocopy of government photo identity card-(Aadhar card/Driving License/Passport)

 

Things to Carry

Trekking shoes: Do not carry a Sports Shoe. Carry good trekking shoes with grip. Make sure it is a water proof trekking shoes with ankle support.

Three layers of warm clothes: Two or three-layer jackets, fleece jacket and a padded jacket

Two/Three trek pants: Carry light cotton trek pants. Avoid denim/jeans and shorts. They are not suitable for trekking.

Three t-shirts (collared/dri-fit): It is advisable to carry a Full sleeved t-shirts to prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dri-fit t-shirts.

Thermals: Carry thermals (top and bottom).

Sunglasses: There will be lot of snow on the trek which can cause snow blindness. Thus Sunglasses are mandatory.

Cap: At high altitude, the sun is extra harsh so carry a cap to protect you.

Water proof hand gloves: Carry water proof gloves and avoid woollen gloves as they will get wet if you touch snow.

Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks: Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.

Headlamp/LED torch: Mandatory

Raincoat/Ponchos: At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a poncho so that you don’t get wet. The trek will continue as planned even during rainfall. Your poncho should protect you rain. Carry a backpack cover for extra protection from rain for your belongings.

Lunch box and water bottle: Every participant should have their personal lunch box and a water bottle [insulated type].
