About this tour

Hamta Pass is a popular trek that is great for the beginners looking to conquer Himalayas. This moderate trek offers an amazing views of peaks rising above 6000 m, beautiful waterfall of chikka, the flat green meadows Jwara, vertical rock towers and much more. The pass at an elevation of 14000 feet has been an old trade route, connecting Lahaul’s Chandra Valley and Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. The trek also offers a contrast from the lush green valley of Kullu to dry and arid valley of Spiti. The visit to Chandrtaal Lake completes adds another satisfying element in terms of view to the trek.

How to reach Rumsu base Camp?

By Bus/taxi: Take a bus route going to Manali from Delhi/ Chandigarh and get off at Patli kuahal about 20 km before Manali bus stand. Up on arrival at Patli-kuahal, you need to take a Taxi to Rumsu.

Free pick up facility is only till 9 am from Patlikuahal to Ramsu base camp.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Report at Base camp in Manali

One must take a bus to Manali that reaches before 9 am from Delhi or Chandigarh. Get off 20 km before Manali at a junction called Patli-kuhal. From here we have arranged taxi services from 7 am – 9 am to take you to the Rumsu base camp. For the participants arriving after 9 am must take a share cab to Rumsu base camp on own. Upon arrival at the base camp; you will proceed for registration and acclimatisation walk. Post which, all the participants will be distributed with Trekking bags, Trekking stick, Micro-spikes that helps you to walk on ice and Gaiters that prevent snow to enter shoes.

Day 2 - Trek from Hamta dam to Chikka

Get ready for the first day of the trek. After breakfast all the participants will be starting at 8 am to Hamta dam by jeep. From Hamta Dam, trek to Chikka commences. This easy trail takes about 2-3 hours to complete and reach Chikka campsite. On the way enjoy the serene atmosphere and fabulous nature around. Up on arrival; relax for the day. Day 3 - Chikka to Balu ka Ghera

Post breakfast; the Trek to Balu ka Ghera will commence. This trek ideally takes about 4 – 5 hours to complete. The initial part of the treks goes through the bank of river and thus crossing few river boulders is inevitable. You will also come across a small stream that you will need to cross to reach Balu Ka Ghera. Balu ka Ghera is a vastly spread plain ground on the banks of river. This wonderful place is one of the most ideal spots for pitching in the tent and camping by the river. Overnight in the tent at Bali Ka Ghera

Day 4 - Balu ka Ghera to Shia Ghoru

Today’s trek requires one to start early before the sunrise. As we will be crossing the snow path, one must move when the snow is fresh; once the sun comes out, the ice tends to become harder. Thus you will be leaving early today at about 5 am. The trek from Balu Ghera to Hamta Pass is a moderate climb; it takes about 4-5 hours to reach the top of Hamta pass. Up on reaching enjoy the spectacular view and nature around. Later we will descend to Shia Ghoru. Descend is steep and thus if there is an abundance of snow, one can slide down to reach Shia Ghoru. Day 5 - Shia Ghoru to Chandrataal to Chatru

After breakfast in the morning; we will start trekking to Chatru. Enjoy your last day of trek. Once we reach Chatru, you will be taken in a vehicle to Chandrataal Lake. Spend a beautiful time at the lake. At the campsite in Chatru, you will be receiving your deposited luggage. You will also have to return all the gears and bag before dinner and certificate distribution. Overnight in Chatru

Day 6 - Departure from Manali

Post breakfast; you will be driving to Manali via Rohtang Pass. Enjoy the drive and scenic view on the way. You should reach Manali by 1 pm however, there are chances of getting delayed due to traffic or mountain accidents; thus it is advisable to book your return bus to Delhi/ Chandigarh after 7 pm.

Things to Carry

Trekking shoes: Do not carry a Sports Shoe. Carry good trekking shoes with grip. Make sure it is a water proof trekking shoes with ankle support.

Three layers of warm clothes: Two or three-layer jackets, fleece jacket and a padded jacket

Two/Three trek pants: Carry light cotton trek pants. Avoid denim/jeans and shorts. They are not suitable for trekking.

Three t-shirts (collared/dri-fit): It is advisable to carry a Full sleeved t-shirts to prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dri-fit t-shirts.

Thermals: Carry thermals (top and bottom).

Sunglasses: There will be lot of snow on the trek which can cause snow blindness. Thus Sunglasses are mandatory.

Cap: At high altitude, the sun is extra harsh so carry a cap to protect you.

Water proof hand gloves: Carry water proof gloves and avoid woollen gloves as they will get wet if you touch snow.

Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks: Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.

Headlamp/LED torch: Mandatory

Raincoat/Ponchos: At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a poncho so that you don’t get wet. The trek will continue as planned even during rainfall. Your poncho should protect you rain. Carry a backpack cover for extra protection from rain for your belongings.

Lunch box and water bottle: Every participant should have their personal lunch box and a water bottle [insulated type].
