About this tour

Hamta Pass is a beautiful trek for beginners to start with Himalayan trekking. The trek route will lead you to some remarkably rich with vegetation and has a lot of scenic landscapes and huge rock formations. Hamta Pass offers some of the most amazing of both the valleys – Manali and Spiti.

Day 1 - Delhi – Patlikuhal overnight Bus

All the participants will be taking an overnight bus from Delhi. This journey is about (12-14 hours) to Patlikuhal. Between the journey the bus will stop at one or more places for dinner and rest-stop.


Day 2 - Rumsu base camp.

The next morning bus will drop you off at Patlikuhal (20km from Manali); from here a pick-up vehicle is arranged to take you to the base camp. Up on reaching the camp, you will freshen up and proceed for registration. Later, you will be taken for acclimatization walk. After the walk, you will be given a trekking bag, Micro spikes (helps you walk on Ice), Gaiters (that prevents snow to enter your shoes) and trekking sticks. Overnight in the base camp

Day 3 - Drive to Hamta dam and trek to Chikka

After a delicious breakfast, get ready for the day; you will be taken on a drive to Hamta dam from the base camp at 8 am. From Hamta Dam, the trek to Chikka commences. This easy trail takes about 2-3 hours to complete and reach Chikka campsite. On the way enjoy the serene atmosphere and fabulous nature around. Up on arrival; relax for the day. Day 4 - Chikka to Balu ka Ghera

Post breakfast; the Trek to Balu ka Ghera will commence. This trek ideally takes about 4 – 5 hours to complete. The initial part of the treks goes through the bank of river and thus crossing few river boulders is inevitable. You will also come across a small stream that you will need to cross to reach Balu Ka Ghera. Balu ka Ghera is a vastly spread plain ground on the banks of river. This wonderful place is one of the most ideal spots for pitching in the tent and camping by the river. Overnight in the tent at Bali Ka Ghera

Day 5 - Balu Ka Ghera to Hamta Pass and descend to Jwara

Today’s trek requires one to start early before the sunrise. As you will be crossing the snow path, one must move when the snow is fresh, once the sun comes out, the ice tends to become harder. Thus you will be leaving early today. The trek from Balu Ghera to Hamta Pass is a moderate climb; it takes about 4-5 hours to reach the top of Hamta pass. Up on reaching enjoy the spectacular view and nature around. Later start descending back to Jwara campsite. Overnight in Tents at Jwara

Day 6 - Descend to Hamta Dam and back to Rumsu camp

Post breakfast all the participants will start descending to Hamta dam. This descend is simple and an easy one; takes about 5 hours. From Hamta Dam, you will be hopping into Jeep and ride back to Rumsu base camp.

Day 7 - Departure

Post breakfast, participants can go for sightseeing and indulge in paragliding, rafting at own expanse. However, at 4 pm you will have to report at Mandi Bus stand to board the departure bus to Delhi. Lunch and Dinner is not included today.


Day 8 - Delhi drop off

The bus will drop you off at Majnu ka Tila bus stand around 6 am – 9 am. You can say your good bye and leave for your respected destinations from here.

Mandatory Documents for the trek:

Medical Certificate (signed by a registered MBBS doctor)

NOC form (by trekker)

Original and photocopy of government photo identity card- (Aadhar card/Driving License/Passport)


Things to Carry

Trekking shoes: Do not carry a Sports Shoe. Carry good trekking shoes with grip. Make sure it is a water proof trekking shoes with ankle support.

Three layers of warm clothes: Two or three-layer jackets, fleece jacket and a padded jacket

Two/Three trek pants: Carry light cotton trek pants. Avoid denim/jeans and shorts. They are not suitable for trekking.

Three t-shirts (collared/dri-fit): It is advisable to carry a Full sleeved t-shirts to prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dri-fit t-shirts.

Thermals: Carry thermals (top and bottom).

Sunglasses: There will be lot of snow on the trek which can cause snow blindness. Thus Sunglasses are mandatory.

Cap: At high altitude, the sun is extra harsh so carry a cap to protect you.

Water proof hand gloves: Carry water proof gloves and avoid woollen gloves as they will get wet if you touch snow.

Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks: Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.

Headlamp/LED torch: Mandatory

Raincoat/Ponchos: At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a poncho so that you don’t get wet. The trek will continue as planned even during rainfall. Your poncho should protect you rain. Carry a backpack cover for extra protection from rain for your belongings.

Lunch box and water bottle: Every participant should have their personal lunch box and a water bottle [insulated type]
