About this tour

Tracing back to 3rd century BCE, Madurai is one of the ancient cities in the east that has trading history with Rome. Situated on the banks of River Vaigai, Madurai is considered to be the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu. It is also one of the top most visited destination amongst the international tourists, who come to explore the rich culture and fascinating historical significance.

Known to be home for many historical monuments and medieval temples, the most important ones amongst them are Meenakshi Amman Temple and Tirumalai Nayak Palace. Madurai is truly one of the best cities in south India to experience the traditions and culture of India.

Itinerary

09:00 am: Meet the driver at the hotel. Proceed for one day local sightseeing tour by Car.

09:20 am: One place to stop at – Meenakshi Amman Temple; Meenakshi temple is one of the most astonishing temples that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. Known for fantastic architecture and sculptures, Meenakshi amman temple is a must visit attraction

10:30 am: Post Darshan, visit Thirumalai Nayak Palace; Belonging to the 17th century to King Thirumalai Nayak, this beautiful palace is historical significant sight that showcases the blend of Dravidian, European and Islamic architecture. It was built under the supervision of an Italian architect.

11:30 am: Proceed for Koodal Azhagar Temple; This ancient temple which is as old as 1500 years, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is a fantastic representation of Dravidian style of architecture.

01:00 pm: Leave for Lunch.

02:00 pm: Proceed for Imayil Nanmai Tharuvar Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a beautiful temple to visit in Madurai

03:00 pm: Later visit Gandhi Memorial Museum; Gandhi Memorial Museum gives an opportunity for people to learn about Mahatma Gandhi and an exhibit of Freedom fighters. One can also find ordinary items of Gandhiji and his blood stained Dhoti that he was wearing at the time of his assassination.

03:30 pm: Leave for Teppakulam Mariamman Temple; This temple is located just 3 km from the main Madurai Meenakshi temple – that is dedicated to Rain Goddess. Outside the temple one will come across a huge tank that is connected to Vaigai river.

04:30 pm: Visit Tiruparankundram Murugan Temple. Dedicated to Lord Murugan also known as Kartikeya, Tiruparankundram temple is a fantastic spot to witness the astonishing sculptures and imposing walls.

05:30 pm: Post Darshan, proceed back to Hotel

06:00 pm: Drop off at Hotel
