About this tour

lying on the banks of river Hoogly, Kolkata is one of the most prominent cities in India and a major metropolitan in the country. Being the capital city of West Bengal, Kolkata is renowned for its heritage spreading across to literature, art, culture, cinema and music. There is a popular quote that we couldn’t agree more ‘If you want a city with a soul, come to Calcutta’. This beautiful city happens to be about the 300-year old that was once called as Calcutta, a name that was given by the British during their reign. It was later in 2001, that the name was changed to Kolkata. Being a port city, Kolkata played a very significant role in shaping the modern history of India. This tour offers a fantastic image of Kolkata by car.

 

Itinerary

09:00 am: Meet the driver at the hotel. Proceed for Local sightseeing of Kolkata

09:30 am: First stop will be at the famous Dakshineshwar Kali Temple. Sitting on the banks of river Hooghly, Dakshineshwar Kali Temple is the most sacred tourist attraction attracting pilgrims from different walks of life. Look out for beautiful Bengali style architecture. 

10:15 am: Proceed for Belur Math belonging to Ramakrishna mission. Widely spread across forty acres of land, lying just on the banks of Hooghly river, Belur Math is a place for spiritual seekers. Known for thoughtful architecture that combines Hindu, Christian and Islamic style of architecture, representing the Unity of all religion.

10:40 am: Leave for Mother Teresa’s home. Mother Teresa known for her selfless service and kindness. Mother house still runs and carrying her legacy. An area in the house is dedicated to pay respect to Mother Teresa – where she rests in her tomb and a small museum displaying rare photographs.

11:30 am: Proceed for Hooghly River or Howrah bridge; Most iconic landmark of Kolkata – is a giant steel structure and also the sixth longest cantilever bridge in the world. Driving pass the bridge is a surreal experience.

12:20 pm: Later proceed for St. John’s Church. This beautiful church is the third oldest church of Kolkata built in 1787.

01:00 pm: Stop for Lunch

02:00 pm: Post lunch, proceed for Marble palace. Built in 1835, Marble palace was private residence of Raja Rajendar Mullick who was an art enthusiast. You will see some of the exquisite sculptures and furniture of Victorian era, along with beautiful painting of Indian and European artists.

02:45 pm: Visit Victoria Memorial. This beautiful structure was built in the year 1906 to mark Queen Victoria’s 25 years rule over India. It is the most famous remnants of British Raj and a beautiful display of British architecture.

03:30 pm: Leave for Birla Planetarium. Must visit for all the astronomy enthusiasts.

04:45 pm: Full day sightseeing comes to an end. Proceed back to Hotel

05:30 pm: Drop off at the hotel.
